Cusona Estate: Tenute Guicciardini-Strozzi

Cusona Estate existence goes back to the year 994 when the Guicciardinis (Machiavelli was secretary of Francesco Guicciardini) and the Strozzis (powerful bankers) represented the two msot influential families in the area. Other famous ancestors of these families are Sir Winston Churchill and Lisa Gherardini, better known as Monna Lisa .
The first Vernaccia di San Gimignano was produced at La Cusona in 1200: it was mentioned by Dante, Michelangelo and Boccaccio.
In the 70's , Price Girolamo Strozzi started selling the wine worldwide, a business he still runs with his wife Irina and his two daughters, Natalia and Irina Jr.  At this historical winery, the vernaccia grape has been used to produce not only a superb Vernaccia Riserva, but also an excellent sparkling wine, the Cusona Brut, and a Grappa made entirely from Vernaccia grapes. At la Cusona there is also a very important production of Chianti and Supertuscans.
