Cantina Petra

Petra (the land of the ld stones) is an ambitious project headed by father and daughter team, Vittorio and Francesca Moretti. It was started in 1997.
The estate and winery are located in Suvereto within Maremma, Tuscany. This gravity-flow winery was designed by celebrated Swiss architect Mario Botta. The cellar was carved in the side of a hill and a long tunnel was created to create a connection between the aging wine and the underground rocks.

Externally, a large impressive stairway leads to a panoamic view that includes the see and the islands.
The property encompasses 300 hectares, whose vineyards and climate are influenced by the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. Its soils are comprised of Tufo (volcanic stone), and clay in the hilltops and calcerous alluvial in the lower sites. Attilio Scienza is in charge of the viticulture. Each vineyard site is farmed with total respect for sustainability.
In terms of wines, this winery produces: the La Balena (white wine from voignier grapes), the Alto (from sangiovese grapes), the Potenti (from cabernet-sauvignon grapes), the Quercegobbe (from merlot grapes), the Colle al Fico (from shirah grapes), the Petra (from cabernet-sauvignon and merlot grapes), the Hebo (from cabernet-sauvignon, merlot and sangiovese grapes) and L'Angelo di Sn Lorenzo, a sweet wine.
